Ensuring a Just Energy for All

The Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development emphasize the necessity for a global energy transformation towards zero carbon and sustainable energy systems. A global energy transformation and a just transition towards a zero carbon economy are possible as long as it is made sure that the process is just and socially inclusive and will not lead to unemployment and social distress. It is essential to substantiate what “justice” means in the context of an energy transition as well as identifying hooks and anchoring points for a just transition.

The workshop aims at discussing the challenges and chances of structural change that regions and countries face during the process of an energy transformation, whose economies are largely based on fossil fuels. Additionally it will also focus on how to shape a just global energy transition and on the potential of renewable energies.
