Made/FEA-USP, FES-Brasil e parceiros recebem Joseph Stiglitz e Martín Guzmán
O Centro de Pesquisa em Macroeconomia das Desigualdades - Made/FEA-USP convida o Nobel de Economia Joseph Stiglitz e o ex-ministro da Economia da Argentina Martín Guzmán para um diálogo sobre o papel que as regulamentações no âmbito do comércio internacional exercem sobre as trajetórias de desenvolvimento passadas e futuras. Sob essa dimensão, insere-se a reflexão sobre a retomada da política industrial, o papel da inovação nesse novo contexto e as consequências generalizadas sobre países desenvolvidos e em desenvolvimento em termos de crescimento econômico, disparidades internacionais e enfrentamento da crise climática global.
O evento organizado pelo Made/FEA-USP será sediado pela Faculdade de Economia, Administração, Contabilidade e Atuária da USP e conta com o apoio da Open Society Foundations (OSF), da Fundação Friedrich Ebert (FES-Brasil) e da Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas (FIPE).
O contexto do evento é a recente recuperação do papel que cabe à política industrial na promoção do crescimento e do desenvolvimento econômico. Sob uma perspectiva global, os limites e possibilidades que perpassam essa retomada estão condicionados, dentre outros fatores, pelas regras e princípios que regem os acordos internacionais de comércio.
Isso porque, diante do grau de interconexão das economias contemporâneas, a regulamentação do comércio internacional acaba sendo um aspecto central para a geração e a distribuição da renda de um país, podendo incidir sobre o escopo, os instrumentos e as limitações associadas à adoção de políticas indústrias, a trajetórias de inovação tecnológica e, finalmente, ao desenvolvimento econômico em sua forma sustentável e equitativa.
Stiglitz e Guzmán discutem as relações de poder imbricadas nessa institucionalidade regulatória, considerando sua dimensão histórica e suas consequências contemporâneas à luz do debate que envolve as disputas hegemônicas entre Estados Unidos e China.
